You learn something new...

It was brought to my attention this week that the practice of typing two spaces after a sentence is obsolete. What?! I have been using two spaces after sentences for years! As a secretary, it's what I was taught to do and I've been doing it ever since, blissfully unaware that the world had passed me by. As I'm typing this, the compulsion to put two spaces after every sentence is driving me crazy. I keep typing two spaces and then deleting one of them. This is going to seriously lower my words per minute.

So what do you use? One space or two between sentences?

This is going to be a hard habit to break (if I decide I care enough to break it).

And just where did you get this important information? I for one will keep typing two spaces as that's the way I've always done it so there is no reason to change now.

I didn't know the rule had been changed. I've not been in an office working for 15 years. I don't plan to change! I think it is easier to read with 2 spaces.

I had to laugh when I saw this blog post because I had been informed of the same thing recently when our trainee at work learnt it as part of her studies. I have been a typist for over 20 years and always use two spaces and will probably keep doing it, because it is a hard habit to break. Just like all those other ones, like the spacing between address and date etc. \

Okay. I've pretty much decided that I don't care enough to break this habit. I'll keep using two spaces. Life's complicated enough without driving myself crazy over this. I first got this info. from one of the secretaries at our church. I did an internet search on it and sure enough...
